Home-based assessment and intervention
Behavioural services can help at times that suit your family. Strategies are evidence-based, practical, and suited to your unique child and family life. Parents or caregivers are involved throughout the process, as well as others who might support your child (e.g., teacher aide).
Interventions are for children with or without disabilities who have feeding challenges including fussy or picky eating, food selectivity (e.g., refusing to eat certain textures, or food groups), ARFID, difficulties with feeding independence (self-feeding/drinking), formula dependency or feeding tube dependency. Please note if your child is tube-fed, they may meet criteria for services (tube weaning) to be provided via the Ready to Eat Study (see here)
The intervention will take place in your home, because that is where most of your child's meals take place. If your child has a feeding difficulty in another place (e.g., school, restaurant), we can develop a plan there as well.
Feeding can be complex, and we may need to work with other health professionals that see your child. These professionals may include your paediatrician, dietitian and speech language therapist.
Following an initial assessment, we will develop a plan for your child’s intervention. This plan can vary widely from child to child, and also depends on the goals that you have.
Please note there is typically a 6-8 week waiting period for initial consultations.
